Despite being a relatively simple set up, there are a few stages where the process can break down when trying to send HDMI content from one location to another. The most important thing is;
Do not assume anything!
and…
Do not rule anything out until you are sure!
The problem could be anywhere and is often where you least expect it. The problem could be the TV or the (dare I say it….) SKY box!
OK, lets looks down the checklist and usually it is best to work down the system if possible stage by stage:
- Does the source work? Try connecting it directly to a screen with an HDMI cable?
- What is the output resolution of the source? Is it compatible?
- Try changing the HDMI cable at the source end.
- Is the transmitter (TX) powered? Check for a power LED. Perhaps the PSU needs replacing?
- Check the RJ45 (CAT6) output connection. Does it click in OK?
- How long is the CAT6 cable? Is it within the limitations of the product? Check the spec.
- Is the receiver (RX) getting power and a link to the transmitter? Check the LEDs on the RX.
- Check the connections. Is everything plugged in correctly?
- Is the HDMI cable at the RX good? Consider swapping it for another one.
- Is the TV on the correct AV input?
- Is the TV on…?
The advanced troubleshooting can be found below:
- What grade is the cable? Don’t forget basic CAT5 (CCA) & CAT5E are not recommended.
- Who fitted the cable? Was it in place already? Could it be damaged? Are you sure of the length?
- Are there any patch panels or wall plates in place. Could there be a bad connection there?
- Have you tested the CAT6 cable? The Antiference ATR269 cable tester has a length and bell test.
