Well, you have made the move! Phew!
Now there are boxes everywhere and you just want to uncover the sofa, sit down and rest with a well-earned cuppa and watch the TV…
You plug the TV in and connect it to the aerial socket on the wall, turn it on and you get…nothing!
This checklist will give some useful suggestions as to what to look for to find out what might be wrong.

- Firstly you will most likely want to re-tune your TV as if you have moved to a new area, the TV services may be broadcast on different frequencies. The tuning menu will be found in the main menu of your TV.
- If a re-tune does not save any TV channels then the next job will be to look for an aerial! Traditionally the aerial is mounted on the roof/chimney or wall but more modern installations are often in the loft/roof space.

- Once the aerial is located do your best to try and identify if it is connected via a cable and appears in reasonable shape (if it is hanging off the roof, for example, it will be time for a new one!).

- Next, you will need to explore where the cabling goes. Sometimes there is a distribution unit located in the loft or a hallway cupboard. It might also be useful to check to see if there are any other rooms have TV points in them as this will help you to identify the kit when you find it. A typical distribution amplifier will look like these:

- If you find a distribution amplifier then check it is powered and make sure all the cables are connected properly.
- It still isn’t working? Don’t worry! There are still more things to try. The next thing to consider is that the system on your new house has got a masthead amplifier fitted and the previous occupiers have made off with the power supply! This is very common and if a masthead amp is fitted the system will not function at all without the power supply…

- The masthead power supply (PSU) will usually be fitted into one of the rooms with a TV point in it as it will need to be plugged into a 13A socket and looped into the coaxial cable system. The PSU sends 12V DC up the coax cable to the amplifier whilst the amp delivers the signal back down.
